ABOUT MARSHA WICHERS
Marsha Wichers is an artist who makes fine and precise work, primarily in clay. Her art is like jewels, full of detail, contemporary, but with a nod to the splendor of the Baroque.
Marsha is not only an artist but also a cosmetic doctor. It was after she got her medical degree that she started her career in art. She graduated in visual arts from the Royal Academy of Art in the Hague (KABK) in 2012. A few years later she completed a master's degree in Design at the same art academy.
CRAFTS, ART & DESIGN
Marsha about her work: "Precision, beauty, and an eye for detail—that's me. I like craftsmanship, things made by human hands. I make small sculptures and jewelry, and I love the delicate work. My sculptures are like jewelry, and my jewelry is like sculpture. I build a piece organically; I create something, and then I continue to work within it. I design, and I build, and I design, and so on."
BALANCING PERFECTION AND INDIVIDUALITY
"As both an artist and a cosmetic doctor, I am driven by an ongoing search for balance between perfection and individuality. Our relationship with vanity is inherently dual: we strive for perfection, yet we deeply wish to preserve what makes us unique—qualities often rooted in imperfection and personal eccentricity. In my art practice, I explore this tension by pushing into the realm of the strange and the grotesque."
INSPIRATION
"I draw my inspiration from the shapes and structures I find in nature. I make molds of my finds and assemble the impressions into new creations. I always look for contrasts, such as the irregularity of natural structures versus smooth polished surfaces. I love sketching ideas and then letting a work develop under my hands in clay."
